U.S. Exporter Assistance
FAS and USDA Market Research Resources
FAS Trade Data
The US Trade Online Database provides a commodity by country breakdown of exports and imports over a two- or five-year period. The U.S. Trade Reports is a service of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA.)

The Bulk, Intermediate and Consumer (BICO) is a site for statistics on the size of the market you maybe targeting and the US share of the country's imports. The Bulk, Intermediate and Consumer (BICO) reports are provided by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Global Agriculture Information Network (GAIN)
The online GAIN database includes more than 23,000 Reports submitted by our FAS Attachés located in FAS offices overseas. The GAIN database (also referred to as Attaché Reports) can provide U.S. exporters the market information needed to make intelligent export decisions. They often contain original research on specific countries and may contain information on both buyers and competitors.
Important reports on market research available in the GAIN database:
  • Exporter Guides –Overview of the country, economy and market.
  • Retail Guides – Overview including products with market potential, channels of distribution.
  • Sector Guides – HRI, etc.
  • Food and Agricultural Import Regulations (FAIRS) – Overview publication.
  • Commodity Reports
Not all reports are produced by all FAS overseas offices. If you can’t find the report you are interested in, try widening the “Custom” date option or contacting the FAS overseas office.

Also recommended is searching “All Commodities” (which in fact will search all reports) for a country of interest. Some overseas offices, such as Mexico and India, publish a “Weekly Highlights and Hot Bites” newsletter or other publications tailored for the market.

FAS-Washington Commodity Reports
FAS in Washington, DC also publishes a range of reports of interest to exporters. Current world production, market and trade reports are listed online at http://www.fas.usda.gov/currwmt.html.

Additional publications and information are also available from the offices of various FAS commodity divisions. A list of divisions can be found at http://www.fas.usda.gov/directories.html.

FAS – AgExporter Magazine
AgExporter Magazine is a monthly magazine for agricultural exporters that provides tips on exporting, descriptions of markets with the greatest sales potential, and information on export assistance available from USDA. Current and archived issues can be viewed at http://www.fas.usda.gov/info/agexporter/agexport.html.

USDA-Economic Research Service (ERS)
ERS operates an online “Briefing Room” which provides information on international trade. The site is available at: http://www.ers.usda.gov/Briefing/AgTrade/.
