Bioethics Symposium

CSREES co-sponsored the “Bioethics Symposium: Proactive Approaches to Controversial Welfare and Ethical Concerns in Poultry Science” in Atlanta, GA, January 23, 2007. It was part of the US Poultry & Egg Association's 2007 International Poultry Expo, the world's largest poultry trade conference. The goal of the symposium was to improve the understanding, and raise the visibility, of poultry production bioethical issues, such as:

  • processing and marketing;
  • production practices; and,
  • euthanasia methods.

The event was designed for anyone involved in poultry production, the general public, and decision-makers at all levels of government.

Other event sponsors were the Southern Poultry Society; WERA -1902, a land grant university multi-state research committee on agricultural bioethics; and Oregon State University and Cornell University.
