NOAA Weather Radio
The NWS maintains a nation-wide network of weather radio transmitters
known as NOAA Weather Radio
(NWR) which broadcast weather information 24-hours a day, 365 days a year.
This weather information includes, but is not limited to, local forecasts
and observations, severe weather watches and warnings, and educational information.
The NOAA Weather Radio network broadcasts information over more than 560 stations
across America.
NWR broadcasts can be received over much of the state of Montana. NWFO Great Falls
controls the transmitters in Great Falls, Helena, Havre, Conrad, Lewistown, Bozeman,
Dillon, and Browning.
Information on where to buy a weather radio can be found at
the NWR web page.

Information on Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME)...
New digital coding can activate only those special receivers programmed for
specific emergency conditions in a specific area, typically by county. SAME can activate specially
equipped radios and cable television receivers and provide a short text message that identifies
the location and type of emergency.
Visit the NOAA Weather Radio SAME web page for further information
on the operation and programming of your NWR SAME Receiver. SAME codes for NWS Great Falls area of responsibility are
listed in the following table.
