Housing Listings

Off-Campus Housing Services can help you start an effective search for a place to live by providing you with current information about off-campus housing through its housing listing service. The office maintains an organized list of rental units that are available to students in the Lafayette and West Lafayette area. This list is updated continually as landlords submit new information about the status of units they rent.

The listing service, which is free, is used by landlords who own a wide variety of rental units and rent them privately as a small business enterprise. Many managers of larger-scale commercial apartments use the service. You can obtain the most current off-campus housing list at http://www2.itap.purdue.edu/SSTA/offcampushousing/search/search.cfm.

If you need someone to help share the expenses of off-campus accommodations that you have already acquired, you may have your name added as a person looking for a roommate.

The off-campus housing list can also be used if you need someone to sublet your property. Some important tips to consider before you try to sublet are:

• You may or may not be successful in finding someone to sublet, so budget your money accordingly.
• Subleasing is generally accepted but requires a written consent of the landlord.
  • The subtenant agrees to the terms of the original lease. If the subtenant fails to pay rent, it is ultimately the responsibility of those who signed the original lease to pay.
  • Get a security deposit from a subtenant to protect yourself.

Base of Operations

Off-Campus Housing Services provides you with a base from which to conduct your search for housing and is located in the Office of the Dean of Students, Schleman Hall, Room 207, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - noon and 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. You can also obtain general information related to housing off campus. Maps of the campus are available as well.
