Download Accelerator/Manager preventing my Java download ?

This article applies to:
  • JRE version(s):
    1.4.2_xx, 1.5.0

A download accelerator could prevent you from downloading the Java Runtime Environment (JRE).

Download accelerators improve the speed of downloading software from the Internet. They also have features that can block popups, banners and specific websites (sometimes referred to as Black Listed sites). They run in the background and are tied into your browser and always take over downloads seamlessly unless explicitly disabled.

If you are using a download accelerator, you may have problems downloading the JRE, from java.com due to any of:
  • Popup Exclusion Lists
    A Black Listed site is one that is blocked by the modem accelerator service. In this case, remove java.com and java.sun.com from the "Black List" and add them to the "White List". This change allows you to connect and download information from sites on the White List. Consult the accelerator product documentation for specific instructions on how to exclude from the Black List and add to the White List.

  • Proxy Issues
    When a modem accelerator service is offered, usually the company also acts as an Internet Service Provider (ISP). In such a case, the ISP provides proxy servers to connect to the internet. This could prevent you from downloading the JRE. In such cases, specify a "Proxy Exclusion List" and add java.com to the list. Consult the accelerator product documentation for specific instructions on how to create and add to a Proxy Exclusion List.

If after following the instructions above, you are still unable to download and install the JRE:
  1. Disable or stop the modem accelerator service.
  2. Download and install the JRE.
  3. Enable or start the accelerator service again.
