Applet Application

Why do some applets fail to run?

This article applies to:
  • JRE version(s):
    1.4.2_xx, 1.5.0

Some websites have applets written exclusively to run on the Microsoft Virtual Machine (MSVM). They may not work on any other virtual machine. MSVM is based on an old implementation of the Java platform specification 1.1 whereas the Sun Java Virtual Machine (JVM software) is based on the latest Java platform specification.

Websites with MSVM dependencies need to upgrade their applets to be compatible with the Sun JVM. Users can write to the website contacts to upgrade the applet.
