The United States Attorney's Office for the Central District of California prosecutes federal offenses and defends United States government interests in civil actions throughout the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernadino, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura. Over 200 attorneys and a nearly equal number of support staff are located primarily in the federal courthouse and adjacent federal building in downtown Los Angeles; a small staff is located in Santa Ana and Riverside, California.

We have a continuing need for student employees from all academic disciplines. Pay grade is commensurate with experience and education level. The greatest number of opportunities are at grades GS-2, GS-3, and GS-4 levels. Full time and part time opportunities are available, and work schedules are flexible to accommodate class and study schedules.

Applications for grades GS-2, GS-3, and GS-4 are accepted on a continuing year-round basis. Higher graded opportunities are announced on an as-needed basis. Further information is available from our job information line at 213-894-8632 and at http://www.usdoj.gov/usao/cac/students.html (includes salary information for grades GS-2, GS-3, and GS-4). A full General Schedule (GS) salary chart is available at http://www.opm.gov/oca/PAYRATES/index.htm.

We also provide opportunities to law students on summer recess. This is known as an "extern" appointment, and duty is on a volunteer (non-paid) basis. For more information on this program, please visit http://www.usdoj.gov/usao/cac/lawstudents.html.
