Naval Sea Systems Command
Design, Build and Support the Navy of Today and Tomorrow
Who We Are and What We Do
We are the Naval Sea Systems Command, or NAVSEA, and we provide America's Sailors and
Marines with the ships, systems, weapons, and combat systems to protect and defend our national

Our extensive experience and solid foundation, going back over 200 years, have brought the Navy from sail and steam to nuclear and electric drive propulsion, from signal flags to digital information, and from grapeshot to electronic weaponry.

Our workforce numbers 3,500 at our Washington, DC headquarters office, with 43,000 employees nationwide at 25 major field activities that include three naval shipyards, eight science and engineering research and development centers, and twelve supervisors of shipbuilding.
