Pesticide Safety Education Program (PSEP)

The Pesticide Safety Education Program (PSEP), managed jointly by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and CSREES, supports educational programs for pesticide applicators in the proper use of pest management technologies. Extension programs at land grant institutions, in conjunction with state regulatory agencies that certify and license applicators, provide these education programs.

PSEP is funded by the EPA, CSREES, and other funds from federal competitive grants, state governments, county governments, and program training fees. CSREES administers the funds and provides program leadership by managing the national program connecting to the land-grant institutions in each state, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories.

Annual federal funding for the program has been as follows:

FY 2004: EPA , $1.2 million; CSREES: no funding; Other funding: $7.3 million
FY 2003: EPA, $700, 000; CSREES, $425,000; Other funding: $7.2 million
FY 2002: EPA, $1,88 million; CSREES: no funding; Other funding: $7.2 million.
