The Division of International Services (DIS), ORS, provides visa,
immigration and other essential administrative management, advice and
procedural guidance for all foreign visiting scientists at NIH, includes
the NIH Visiting Program, Visiting Scientists, guest researchers,
special volunteers, and nonimmigrant special experts.
It also serves as official liaison between NIH and the U.S. Citizenship
and Immigration Service (USCIS) and the Department of State and other government
agencies in all matters concerning visiting foreign scientists at NIH.
NOTE: As a general rule, within a few days of arrival in the U.S., a visiting foreign scientist should call
the institute’s designated key contact person as well as contact the DIS.
