Sugar & Sweeteners

The United States is the largest consumer of sweeteners and is one of the largest sugar importers. The United States also ranks among the top sugar producers, with significant production of both sugar beets and sugarcane. ERS analysts track U.S. and international sugar and sweetener production, consumption, and trade, and analyze events that affect domestic and international sweetener markets.

 Spotlights

Sugar and Sweeteners Outlook—This report, which is published three times a year, examines world and U.S. production, consumption, trade, stocks, and prices for beet and cane sugar, and other sweeteners, including high-fructose corn syrup, honey, and maple syrup.

Sugar Backgrounder—This report addresses key domestic and international market and policy developments that have affected the U.S. sugar sector in recent years. It provides descriptions and analyses of farm-level production of U.S. sugar crops, cane and beet sugar processing and refining industries, sugar imports and exports, and sugar consumption.
