Agronomy - Growing a Greener Future
Ninth Australian Agronomy Conference

The Australian Society of Agronomy
Charles Sturt University
Wagga Wagga, New South Wales 2650 Australia
July 20-23, 1998

The conference theme recognises the roles of scientists, advisers and farm managers to achieve a resolution of agricultural imperatives (efficient utilisation of resources for the profitable production of quality food and fibre) with environmental imperatives (sustainability, soil health, stream flow, air and water quality, landscape improvement and biodiversity). There is general scientific acceptance, but not community acceptance, that good agriculture means good environmental management. The process of management optimisation is often thwarted by problems such as weeds, pests and diseases. These problems and their solution warrant consideration.

Keynote addresses will be presented on the theme of the conference, from world and Australian perspectives, on regional agronomic systems and industry needs, and on professional responsibilities and community expectations, on plants for land reclamation and rehabilitation, on biosolids and effluent use on crops and pastures, on electronic agriculture, on innovation and change and on pasture/crop systems. Key contributed papers and posters may also be presented.
