Make Plans to Attend November Risk Management and Community Outreach Conference in Huntsville

The Small Farms Research Center at Alabama A&M University will hold its 5th Annual Risk Management and Community Outreach Conference on Nov. 15 and 16 at the Holiday Inn Hotel located at 501 Williams Street in Huntsville.

The 2007 theme is Healthy Land, Profitable Family Farms, and Sustainable Future. The conference will start early on Nov. 15 with a keynote address by United States Congressman Artur Davis of Alabama’s 7th Congressional District. The conference will resume at 9 a.m. on Nov. 16.

The Risk Management Conference is free to Alabama producers, landowners, agricultural professionals and Extension personnel, but everyone must register. Room and board scholarships are limited, so register in advance. Registration is $100 for out-of-state attendees, which includes meals and hotel accommodations.

The Small Farms Research Center at Alabama A&M University was established in 2000 with funding from the United States Department of Agriculture’s Office of Outreach under Section 2501 of the 1990 Farm Bill. The center is devoted to research, education and outreach for small and limited-resource farms in Alabama’s underserved communities. The center also conducts research to understand how the many socioeconomic and policy issues affect profitability and overall sustainability of farm operators and landowners in Alabama.

In addition, the Small Farms Research Center is the sole outreach arm of the School of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at Alabama A&M University and works in close partnership with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, USDA agencies and other community-based organizations interested in the plight of small and limited producers.
