DC on July 31, 2008. The mission of the “FlexFuel Vehicle
Club” is to locate and educate existing and prospective
FFV owners, then motivate them to use higher blends of ethanol.

The
Clean Fuels Foundation’s
The Ethanol Across America education campaign released part
of an internal study that places the U.S. fuel ethanol industry
as the third largest contributor to the U.S. gasoline supply – surpassing
Iraq and several other OPEC countries.

Recent media reports have blamed the ethanol industry for the
rising price of corn, animal feed, and food. In response, the
Clean Fuels Foundation in June issued a report stating the
increases in food and feed costs were primarily due to the
rising cost of energy – “Statistics simply don't
bear out the dire predictions of those who say we must choose
between fueling our cars and feeding people.” As a follow
up to the report, CFDC and the Ethanol Across America education
campaign sponsored a BioFuels Journal
Webinar titled “The
Impact of Ethanol Production on Food, Feed and Fuel.” The
Webinar included presentations from Terry Klopfenstein, animal
sciences professor at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln,
Roger Conway, Director of the USDA's Office of Energy Policy
and New Uses, Todd Sneller, administrator of the Nebraska Ethanol
Board and Chairman of the Clean Fuels Development Coalition.

What's a cattle guy from Nebraska doing advocating continued
ethanol development? Jim Jenkins, a Nebraska Cattleman and Restaurant
owner also is Chairman of the Nebraska Ethanol Board. Jim brings
a new and fresh perspective to the debate of using grain for
ethanol production and believes it will make both grain producers
and users more efficient.

CFDC worked with the Governors’ Ethanol Coalition to sponsor an industry/government
workshop to discuss the development of EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Lifecycle model
and learn more about the RFS program. A very diverse group of industry
and government representatives gathered at the J.W. Marriott in Washington DC
to provide direct input into the EPA process.

In spite of the dangerous threats of oil imports, terrorism,
climate change and the down trodden economy, ethanol and biofuels
continue to be subjected to rumors and unfounded concerns that
are based on outdated research and biased public relations campaigns
played out in the media. As a result, CFDC is consistently
working with the media to get the stories straight with letters
to the editors, publications, and other educational information
(see
publications). CFDC
responses have recently been published in the Los Angeles Times, New York Times,
Detroit Free Press, Atlanta Journal, Christian Science Monitor and many others
are pending.

teamed with the Nebraska Ethanol Board and conducted a series of workshops
to assist ethanol producers and potential E85 distributors and marketers learn
more about building new E85 refueling infrastructure in the state. The workshops
were made possible by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development
and the Nebraska Rural Development Commission.

Two articles
published February 7 on ScienceXpress, the Web site of Science
magazine, received significant media attention regarding the
sustainability of ethanol and the future of biofuels as alternatives
to petroleum. The attached
overview document went to each Congressional
office in an effort to set the story straight about land use,
biofuel production, and the benefits of ethanol.
A new report, sponsored by CFDC and released
by the Ethanol Across America Education Campaign, illustrates
how U.S. ethanol production facilities are generating hundreds
of millions of dollars to local, state, and federal governments
through direct and indirect economic generation. "When
indirect and induced jobs are considered, along with capital
spending and investment, the ethanol industry is adding more
than $40 billion of gross output to the U.S. economy," said
U.S. Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE) Co-Chairman of the Ethanol

Chrysler,
Ford and General Motors have been working with CFDC for 17 years
to develop cleaner fuels and expand the biofuels/ethanol market
and E85 refueling infrastructure. They have also pledged that
by 2012 50% of their vehicles would be Flexible Fuel Vehicles
(FFVs), capable of operating on ethanol blends of up to 85%.
CFDC, the Clean Fuels Foundation, and the National Ethanol Vehicle
Coalition teamed with the Nebraska Ethanol Board and received
a grant from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development
and the Nebraska Rural Development Commission. The Award will
help CFDC and NEVC conduct a series of E85 workshops to assist
ethanol producers and potential E85 distributors and marketers.

Following overwhelming votes for passage in the U.S. Senate
and the House of Representatives, President Bush signed The
Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 into law on
December 19, 2007. The legislation establishes a 36 billion gallon
Renewable Fuels Standard and increases fuel economy requirements
for the first time in nearly 30 years. These two measures
could eliminate crude oil imports by 2030.

CFDC marked the release of the 5th Edition of the Ethanol Fact
Book with a press conference in the US Senate last month, featuring
Ethanol Across America Advisory Committee Chairs Senators Ben
Nelson and Richard Lugar. Also addressing the media were fact
book sponsors Keith Cole of General Motors, Tom Buis of the National
Farmers Union, Keith Collins, Chief Economist at the USDA, and
Steven Chalk, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Renewable Energy,
US DOE.

The
majority of Americans want more cleaner burning domestic fuels
and they think the government should help. The poll also shows
that Americans also understand that the rising price of energy
has more of an impact on food than ethanol production. For

The
new partnership between Gay & Robinson Inc. and Pacific
West will invest $80 million to develop America’s first
fuel ethanol plant to generate renewable power from sugarcane.
The partners’ long
term vision is for an “energy plantation” on Kauai
that also produces biodiesel, hydro and solar power. The operation
includes a 7,500 acre sugar plantation, giving the owners control
over their supply of feedstock. This new investment will
help lower the cost of energy in Hawaii and help the state meet
its renewable energy goals. It will also ensure that approximately
230 people retain their jobs at the facility and that a large
area of West Kauai will be maintained in sustainable agriculture.

education and outreach program to promote Flexible Fuel Vehicles
and advance the development of E85 refueling infrastructure.
Over 30 members of the Governors’ Ethanol Coalition are

the national Icon, Uncle Sam. “We Want You to Support
