Eat In, Act Out Week: July 30 - August 5, 2007
|
What is Eat In, Act Out week?
Eat In, Act Out Week is an annual event to encourage communities to eat locally and think critically about their food choices. "Eat In" refers to using local food and cooking food yourself instead of eating fast food or take out, and "Act Out" means speaking up and taking action to change our food system and promote local food.
How can I participate?
The History
The idea dates back to 2001, when The Food Project's BLAST interns started promoting local food to the public through a one-day "Day of Action", handing local carrots with tags explaining the importance of local food to commuters after work. In 2005, BLAST recruited groups around the country to hold similar events during the same week, to reach more people and amplify the message to eat local. Thousands of people took part in Eat In, Act Out Week in 2005 and in 2006.
