Coronado National Forest Plans Additional Public Meeting in Vail for Rosemont Copper Project EIS

(TUCSON, ARIZONA, March 14, 2008) – In addition to the three public meetings already scheduled for the proposed Rosemont Copper Project environmental impact statement (EIS), a fourth meeting will be scheduled in Vail, Arizona. The date, time, and location of the meeting will be announced as soon as possible.

Coronado National Forest Supervisor Jeanine Derby submitted a Notice of Intent for publication in the Federal Register to initiate preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed Rosemont Copper Project.

Douglas Ranger District Prescribed Fire: Whitmire Fire Scheduled for Early March
TUCSON, AZ (February 26,) - The week of March 3rd 2008, personnel on the Douglas Ranger District, Coronado National Forest, plan to implement a prescribed fire project in the Peloncillo Mountains of southwestern New Mexico. Weather and other conditions permitting, 155 acres of National Forest Land will be burned as part of a study led by the Rocky Mountain Research Center.

Mountain Precipitation Can Lead to Desert Flooding: Visitors Should be Aware of Changing Conditions
TUCSON, AZ (January 7, 2008) – Rain falling in Southeastern Arizona’s mountain ranges can lead to flash flooding in downstream desert canyons. Such was the case on Sunday, January 6 in the Sabino Canyon Recreation Area, where 61 visitors became stranded in the Sabino Canyon Recreation Area and rescued with the assistance of helicopters and the Southern Arizona Rescue Association.
