Freight, Air & Water

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) recognizes that the state's location has always made it a transportation hub, from sailing ships, canal boats and steam locomotives to container ships, truck terminals and rail yards.

Today, hundreds of millions of tons of freight valued at more than $850 billion annually move into, out of and across New Jersey by truck, barge and ship, plane, and train. Within 25 years, freight volumes are predicted to grow by more than 65 percent. This growth will be added to a transportation system shared with passenger cars on highways and public transit on rail.

By promoting the safe, efficient and cost effective movement of goods through New Jersey's freight transportation system, NJDOT is maintaining the flow necessary to enhance the quality of life of New Jersey residents and to support the state's economic vitality.

Information about goods movement, aviation facilities and aeronautical programs is found in Freight, Air and Water along with planning, programs and policy for the maritime industry.
