Entry bubble I Like to Bike

Red vintage bicycle with basket and flowers leaning on a fence on a sand duneJust about every morning before starting to work I get on my bicycle and go for a ride. I ride about 5 miles a day, which isn’t very much, but it’s all my schedule allows. Biking is great exercise, helps me manage stress, and strengthens my problem knees.

Last week, we were in vacation in Avalon, NJ and it was bicycle heaven. Avalon is on a 7 mile long island and the island has a bike lane on one of the main roads. It was fun to ride the 14 mile loop around the island and it was really wonderful to see so many people out in the morning riding bikes, running and walking. We’d even use our bikes to avoid driving in the car to pick up milk or yummy treats from the bakery. What a pleasant way to save gas.

When I was a kid I rode my bike all the time – to school, to the pool, pretty much wherever I wanted to go. Back in those days we didn’t think so much about safety – when we fell off our bikes we cracked our heads open, and we liked it! Just kidding, traumatic head injury is really no joke and that’s why I always wear a helmet now. And if you want it to really protect your head, wear your helmet correctly.

There are lots of opportunities to ride your bike. If you want to save money on gas, you can consider biking to work or to do your errands. If biking to work isn’t an option, try a ride in your neighborhood or in a park. Many federal parks have paths and trails just for bikes.

I'm in North Wildwood for most of the summer and also love to bike. Whether it's a run to the store for a few food items or going to the post office or taking a ride on the boardwalk, biking is fun and good for you. Oh, I too have bad knees and biking is better on them than walking.

How nice to spend the summer at the beach. Not only is biking easier on the knees than some other forms of exercise, but it also strengthens the muscles around the knee - since I've started biking, my knees are pain free!

I love to ride too, unfortunately my employer (the federal government) has made it difficult to access the bicycle rack at work. i thought the government set a standard and acted as a role model. How can we set the standard when we are making it more difficult to save mooney, gas, carbon dioxide emissions and all the rest of the costs of petroleum based trnasportation.

love the exercise, and being a sufferer of chronic knee pain as well, have found myself suffering less when i ride my GIANT 24-speed on the 12 mile (each way) commute. I get 24 miles to the gallon (of gatorade). Sleep better, feel better, lose weight, gain strength and endurance. It's a win win win! I wish the rest of our society would step up and join in.

2 wheels beats 2 heels,
Try having a conversation with your building manager about the bike rack - he or she may not be aware that it's a problem for the agency bikers. Good luck!

If you really want to ride, you could try a three wheeled bike. Why not? We're not kids any more and there's no shame in not wanting to fall off your bike! I saw the three wheeled bikes at the beach this year and I thought it was a really clever idea for people who don't feel too steady on two wheels.

They say that biking is a great way to exercise. I remember when I was younger me and my brother would always ride our bikes up the street to this dinner, that has been there for years. We would our bikes everyday in the summer to that small dinner. To this day the people that work there still remember me. They're always reminding me of how young I was and what I use to order. Still hasn't changed. One day as we were riding our bikes, something happened to my bike and I went flying off of it hitting the pavement pretty hard. I was so worried that my dad would get mad that I broke my bike, but he didn't, but he also didn't buy me a new one. For the rest of that summer I had to ride on the back of my brother’s bike, if I wanted to go anywhere. That coming Christmas I received a brand new bike and the next summer after that was the greatest. Until the end of the summer that is. My bike had gotten a flat, and my dad was busy working so he couldn't fix it. So I and my brother continued to ride his bike, with me on back. It was a overcast day and my brother was going really fast, which I loved. I was swinging my feet, even though my dad told me to never do that. All of a sudden I was off the bike and on the ground with blood everywhere. I had totally cut up my ankle on my left leg. My brother and I tried to keep it a secret but it started to smell really bad. Until one day my dad told me he wanted to look at my leg. He took me to the hospital and they told us that if i had waited even two more days that they would have had to amputate my leg from the knee down. I haven't ridden a bike ever since. Right now I'm thinking of buying a new bike and riding it for the rest of the summer. It’s been years since my incident and I think it time I get on and try again.
