Managing Weeds & Soil Quality Organically
Date: June
13
Time: 1:30am-4:00pm
Location: Russell E. Larson Research Center,
CENTRE Co.
A collaborative effort of PASA, Penn State University, and
Pennsylvania Certified Organic
This hands-on field day
highlights a unique project at Penn State dedicated to organic transition
research. The “site” is in its final year in transition
to organic production, and our discussions and activities will focus
on the interaction between soil and cover crop management and its
impact on weed populations and soil quality. We'll look at several
types of cover crops in an organic cover crop demonstration garden
to discuss how cover crops can be used to manage annual and perennial
weeds and soil quality. This field day will have something to offer
all types of producers, educators, students and ag professionals.
This field day will be
presented by Mary Barbercheck, Sustainable Agriculture, PSU Dept.
of Entomology; Dave Mortensen, Weed Ecology, PSU Dept. of Crop and
Soil Sciences; Dave Sandy, Organic Transition Project Coordinator,
PSU Depts. of Entomology and Crop and Soil Sciences.
