Cooperative Extension Faculty of the Year
The Extension Faculty of the Year award is presented annually to an
outstanding faculty nominated by peers and selected by a committee
composed of the elected chair of the county directors, the elected head of
department heads and school directors, and a former faculty award winner.
2007 Winner - George Ruyle, School of Natural Resources
2008 Winner - Bryan Chadd, Maricopa County
George Ruyle has worked in Extension and the School of Natural Resources since 1983 in the areas of Rangeland Ecology and Management, Public Land Grazing, and Sustainable Rangeland Livestock Production Systems.
As a professor and extension specialist in Range Management, his primary role is to provide leadership for statewide educational programming backed by problem-solving research and focused on sustainable use of rangelands. His interests have a central theme to provide various client-groups the ecological foundation essential for the implementation of effective rangeland management. George enjoys enjoy working with widely diverse interests and blending the theoretical aspects of rangeland science with the practical needs of local communities.
Nomination letters highlighted George’s communication and collaboration skills in the technical aspects of rangeland science in dealing with all levels of audiences. His ability to communicate and collaborate has helped ease tensions between ranchers and agency personnel and ranchers view him with the utmost of professional respect. His professionalism, personal commitment, and positive attitude reflect well on the UA Cooperative Extension program. Because of his program, rangelands in Arizona and the western United States are better monitored, better managed, and more people are engaged in ensuring they will be used sustainably for generations to come.
Bryan Chadd has worked as an Arizona 4-H Youth Development Extension Agent, since 1984, providing subject matter training, education and program management for youth and adults in the 4-H program areas of Plant Sciences, Teen Leadership, Community Service, Science & Technology, Large Animals, Equine, Volunteer Development, Club management and Challenge Programs. He has contributed leadership to the Arizona 4-H Challenge, J.O.L.T., 4-H Road Trip and 4-H Military programs as well as being a team member of 4-H Development professionals who share in efforts of guidance to volunteer adult leaders who lead local, county, state and national 4-H programs.
Nomination letters highlighted Bryan’s dedication, passion and caring, and that he embodies the concept of outreach by having conducted Extension work in Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, England, Korea and Japan as well as many U.S. states. Thousands of youth as well as many adults have benefited from his positive attitude and professional leadership and he has been a driving force in many new, creative and innovative ideas in Arizona 4-H. He is an educator who takes every opportunity to teach young people the life skills they will need to grow into independent, competent adults and in doing so he exemplifies teaching at its finest- education by example.
Outstanding Staff in Cooperative Extension Award
The Outstanding Staff Award in Cooperative Extension was created to recognize and honor unusual dedication and outstanding contributions by a classified staff member in College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) Cooperative Extension. Award will usually be given annually with a plaque and award of $500. The award will be presented at an Extension event held in conjunction with CALS Staff In Service Day.

Outstanding Team Award
The Outstanding Team Award was created to recognize and honor unusual dedication and outstanding contributions by a team of College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) employees. The award will be given annually with a plaque and award of $500 to each team member (maximum of $2,500). The award will be presented at the Spring or Fall Faculty Staff Meeting.
