The FY 2004 Performance and Accountability Report [pdf, html] and the Highlights [pdf, html] provide performance results and audited financial statements that enable Congress, the President, and the public to assess the performance of the Department in achieving its mission and stewardship of its resources. The report contains a concise overview, Management's Discussion and Analysis, as well as performance and financial sections. Additional details of performance results and program evaluations can be found in the appendices.

Report Among Highest Rated
The FY 2004 performance report ranked second in the Mercatus Center's evaluation of which federal agency reports best inform the American public and their elected leaders. The Center notes that the State Department has had "a sustained surge from 20th place in fiscal 1999."
