| Media Note Office of the Spokesman Washington, DC January 13, 2009 Ambassador Kenneth Quinn Receives Army Air MedalDeputy Secretary of State John D. Negroponte and Congressman Leonard Boswell hosted a ceremony today at the Department of State to present the Air Medal to Ambassador Kenneth M. Quinn.
Dr. Quinn, former U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia, served nearly 32 years in the Foreign Service. From 1968 to 1970, Ambassador Quinn participated in more than 250 hours of aerial operations while assigned to an advisory team in Sa Dec Province with the Military Assistance Command Vietnam’s Civil Operations and Rural Development and Support (MACV/CORDS). For these achievements, Ambassador Quinn was presented today with the Air Medal for sustained aerial operational activities against hostile forces in the Republic of Vietnam during the period of May 1970 to December 1970. The Air Medal was authorized by President Roosevelt by Executive Order 9158, dated May 11, 1942, and is awarded to "any person who, while serving in any capacity in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard of the United States subsequent to September 8, 1939, distinguishes, or has distinguished, himself by meritorious achievement while participating in an aerial flight." 2009/043 |
