GBIF is pleased to announce a training workshop in georeferencing, to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 19-23 March 2007. The language of the workshop will be Spanish.

This GBIF training is targeted at participants who are professionally involved with geo-referencing and particularly those who will be in a position to pass the knowledge they gain at this workshop on to others. Thus, involvement of participants in georeferencing activities should be:

  • clearly linked to his/her institutional affiliation, and
  • be part of a major digitisation project or initiative.
Synergies with other GBIF-related activities (e.g. seed money grants) will be an asset. It is expected that selected participants will help to mobilise georeferenced records through GBIF.

The structure and curriculum will be similar to that of the georeferencing workshop held at the Royal Museum for Central Africa (RMCA), Tervuren – Belgium, in December 2006.

GBIF members – through their Head of Delegation (or designate) - are invited to nominate persons to take part in this workshop. The nomination/application form can be downloaded by clicking on the appropriate language: Spanish or English (the nominee´s level of proficiency in Spanish should be indicated in the application).

Completed applications should be e-mailed to Juan Bello, GBIF Programme Officer for Nodes. Deadline to submit applications is 16 February 2007.
