NFIRS 5.0 Reference Guide

This handbook is a component of the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) Version 5.0. It provides both instruction for reporting data and understanding of the data elements collected by the system. It also serves as a reference for the coding of the data.

The NFIRS 5.0 Complete Reference Guide (CRG) has been updated and posted below.

The CRG is consistent in content with the January 2008 Specification Release Cycle and is intended for use by NFIRS users beginning January 1, 2008. This version of the document supercedes all previous versions. Those using older versions of the NFIRS 5.0 Handbook or draft versions of the CRG should replace them with the January 2008 CRG version as many changes and corrections have been made in the revised guide.

If corrections to the text of the Complete Reference Guide must be made, an updated CRG document file will be posted as well as individial section or page to which the correction was made. For those who downloaded and printed the entire CRG, refer to the Complete Reference Guide Notices section on this page to obtain file update information.
