Released: Oct 27 2005 China, Peoples Republic of  | Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Outbreak in Hunan Province   CH5079 Highlight: This week China reported its 6th AI outbreak during 2005. Highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1) killed 545 birds in China's Hunan Province, according to a Ministry of Agriculture report filed with the International Organization of Animal Health (OIE) on October 25. Officials destroyed 2,487 birds and vaccinated another 43,750 with an inactivated mono H5N2 vaccine. No human infections were reported. The OIE notification is included in this report. Thus far during 2005, China has reported AI outbreaks in Qinghai, Tibet, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Anhui and Hunan.
