Passing of Former State Conservationist Cliff Maguire

1931-2006

We are all saddened by the passing of Cliffton Arthur "Cliff" Maguire, Wisconsin NRCS State Conservationist from 1980-1989.  Cliff worked as Deputy State Conservationist in Ohio before coming to Wisconsin.  He helped oversee the implementation of the 1985 Farm Bill, with its landmark legislation for conservation Conservation Compliance, Swampbuster, Sodbuster, and the Conservation Reserve Program.  Cliff was born on January 11, 1931, in Rockwell City, Iowa.  He was a 1960 engineering graduate of Iowa State University and a U.S. Army veteran.  He was married to Connie Slagle in 1981, in Columbus, Ohio.  He was an avid gardener but treasured most the time spent with his family.
