Our goal is to protect the state's resources by preventing the establishment of high-risk insects, plant diseases and weeds. Staff conduct surveys and inspections, enforce agricultural quarantines, ensure that consumers and the nursery industry are provided healthy, pest-free and disease-free plant materials, provide laboratory diagnostic services, and carry out projects to eradicate such pests as Spartina, the gypsy moth and the Japanese beetle.

The Plant Services program provides regulatory inspection of
licensed
retail and
wholesale nurseries to ensure that consumers and the nursery industry are provided healthy, pest-free and disease-free plant materials.
Inspectors enforce
quarantines to prevent pest introduction
and assure disease-free planting stock.
Inspectors also provide export certification for plant products
being shipped to other states and countries. To request inspection
or obtain a phytosanitary certificate, contact the nearest
WSDA Plant
Services field office. Export certification is provided on a
fee-for-service basis. Click here for the
current fee schedule.
Plant certification programs are provided on a voluntary basis for fruit trees and related ornamentals, seed potatoes, hops, grapevines, mint, garlic, caneberries and strawberries.
