MY BOSTON FERN WHICH I HAVE HAD FOR SEVERAL YEARS ALL TURNED BLACK.. MY HUSBAND LEFT IT OUTSIDE - COULD THE COLD HAVE KILLED IT

May I prune a bamboo plant which is growing quite tall? If so, would it be feasible to root the cutting in water to propagate a new plant?
