International Wildlife Trade - Species Listings

International Affairs is committed to using sound science in its decision-making and providing the American public with information of the highest quality possible. The Division of Scientific Authority evaluates listings for foreign (i.e. non-U.S.) species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and for domestic (i.e., U.S.-native) and foreign species under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). In order to ensure the quality and credibility of the scientific information disseminated to the public, FWS has implemented a formal “peer review” process for influential and highly influential scientific documents.
