It's Cheatin' Time

It's usually about this time that most people are starting to "rethink", aka cheat on, their New Years Resolution. Their strict diet has suddenly found a little wiggle room. Sure, they can take one day off of exercising without falling off completely. A small piece (or two!) of chocolate is fine. It goes on and on and on. This year, I haven't even started (isn't that terrible?) and I think that what we need is a plan. A menu/food plan and fridge fully stocked with healthy snacks can be infinitely helpful in dealing with the day to day temptation. Actually scheduling exercise into your planner can help you keep it as a priority as well.

While it is easy to get caught up in doctor’s visits, hair removal treatments and the physical aspects of life with PCOS, women need to remember to take care of their mental health too. The increased health risks (diabetes, endometrial cancer, cardiac issues) in addition to embarrassing physical symptoms make it easy to become overwhelmed, lonely and depressed.
So, take care of your emotional health as well. Make time to do something special just for you. Pick up that book you've been dying to read, or call a girlfriend to go out for lunch. Go shopping and buy something new. Get a manicure. Just find the time to do something just to treat yourself every day. Finding a support group or psychologist can be helpful as well, if you feel that you need some extra support.

As the rush of the holiday season is upon us, having a plan to deal with temptation is key to surviving without putting on a ton of weight. While it may be unrealistic to entirely give up everything, having a small portion of one or two of your favorites isn't the worst thing in the world.
There are some foods which can fill you up and help you deal with cravings. High fiber foods in particular are great for this. Look for high fiber versions of your favorite foods, like bread or milk, and try adding lots of fruits and veggies to your diet. Finally, if you think that you're hungry, try having a big glass of water first. Then wait 15 minutes to see if your craving passes.
And, don't forget to cut yourself some slack if you slip. Being too hard on yourself does not accomplish anything. Acknowledge the mistake and remember that you can always make better decisions tomorrow!

It doesn't seem fair. As if there isn't enough to think about with PCOS, you also have the added worry of how your skin is going to look.
