Avon Foundation Breast Care FundThe mission of the Avon Foundation Breast Care Fund is to provide women with direct access to breast cancer education and early detection screening services such as mammograms and clinical breast exams, paying particular attention to women who are medically underserved. The Avon Foundation Breast Care Fund was created by Avon to reach the women most in need of breast cancer screening and treatment services. Through the fund, financial support is made available to community-based programs providing education and outreach to medically underserved women, including low-income, older, and minority women. In 2003, the Avon Breast Care Fund awarded more than $6 million in grants to 135 organizations in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Partnership ActivitiesOn May 8, 2003, the CDC Foundation announced the commencement of the Avon/CDC Foundation Mobile Access Program. This program is coordinated by CDC's National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) and the CDC Foundation. Through the Avon/CDC Foundation Mobile Access Program, eight community organizations have been awarded grants to implement mobile mammography screening programs to reach underserved women. Funding for the initiative was provided by a $4.1 million gift from the Avon Foundation. NBCCEDP will provide technical assistance to the funding recipients in implementing the mobile screening programs.
