Prado Museum on Google Earth

Friday January 16, 2009
The Prado, Madrid's premier art museum and Spain's most popular tourist attraction, has had some of its images added to Google Earth - at a resolution 1,400 times better than a 10 megapixel camera could take.

The project allows art lovers to see things that were previously not visible to the human eye - such as a microscopic teardrop on Roger van der Weyden's "Descent from the Cross."

Fourteen exhibits can be seen in Google Earth. Other paintings now in digital format include Diego Velázquez's "Las Meninas" and Hieronymus Bosch's "The Garden of Earthly Delights". Viewers can also move around a 3D representation of the museum as if they were actually there.

The Prado is visited by more tourists each year than any other museum in Spain. If viewing the exhibits online isn't enough for you, read more about visiting for yourself: Prado Museum in Madrid.

Spain Braced for More Snow

Tuesday January 13, 2009
Twenty-five Spanish provinces are preparing for more snowfall today, only days after the last cold weather front caused massive disruption to transport across the country.

The regions likely to be hit are Albacete, Asturias, Ávila, Burgos, Cáceres, Cantabria, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, Guadalajara, Guipúzcoa, La Rioja, León, Lugo, Madrid, Navarra, Orense, Palencia, Salamanca, Segovia, Soria, Teruel, Toledo, Valladolid, Zamora y Zaragoza, according to an article on TypicallySpanish.com: Yet another front brings more snow to Spain on Tuesday. All of these provinces are in the north and center of Spain.

Last week, heavy snow caused serious delays at Madrid's Barajas airport and forced RENFE, the Spanish train company, to abandon its AVE punctuality promise. The latest cold front is not expected to be as severe.

Barcelona to Malaga by Train - Now Even Faster!

Friday January 9, 2009
A new rail track that bypasses Madrid means that you can now travel by train from Barcelona to Malaga without going via the capital, according to this article on Typically Spanish: High speed rail link opens between Malaga and Barcelona.

The new journey takes just five hours and forty minutes - an impressive time considering how much distance you are covering. However, tickets aren't cheap. If you book well in advance and online, a round trip costs 160€ - you'd be better off flying. Going by plane would be a little quicker too, even taking into account check-in times and all that waiting around you get at airports.
