NRCS Three-year Action Plan for Invasive Species

The NRCS Invasive Species Advisory Committee (NISAC) met recently during the National Invasive Weeds Awareness Week VII in Washington, D.C., to develop a first draft of a three-year action plan for NRCS — along with our partners — to better address invasive species concerns.

Present members of the NISAC include —
NHQ Representatives — Doug Holy, National Invasive Species Specialist; Bob Escheman, Director, National Plant Materials Center; Tom Sommer, Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative Programs Contact; and Scott Peterson, Director, National Plant Data Center.

Regional Representatives — Norman Melvin, NRCS Wetlands Team Leader and Kimberli Stine, Central Rangeland Management Specialist.

State Conservationists — Don Gohmert, Louisiana; Bill Hunt, Minnesota; Dave White, Montana; and Larry Yamamoto, Hawaii.

State Staff Representatives — Scott Edwards, Louisiana; Julie Hawkins, Virginia; Greg Hendricks, Florida; Larry Holzworth, Montana; Joe May, Hawaii (will change due to new position); Daniel Mountjoy, California (may change due to new position).

Input regarding the present NRCS needs and suggestions for better addressing invasive species has been requested through informal communications from all State conservationists. Once complete, the final draft of this dynamic Three-year Action Plan to Address Invasive Species will be made available to all NRCS employees.
