National Nongovernmental Organizations (NGOs) Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP)
AMCHP is a national organization representing state public health leaders
and academic, advocacy, and family health professionals that works to
improve the health and well-being of women, children, youth (including those
with special health care needs), and families.
AMCHP's Program in Action
AMCHP is funded to provide Capacity-Building Assistance
for Preventing HIV Infections:
State and Local Health Agencies.
- Working with the National Stakeholders Collaborative (NSC) to plan
and conduct a National Stakeholders Meeting (NSM) Reconvene to
strengthen collaboration between state health and state education
agencies to support and improve prevention of HIV, sexually transmitted
diseases (STDs), and unintended and teen pregnancy for youth. The NSC is
comprised of the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS
Directors (NASTAD), the National Coalition of STD Directors (NCSD), the
Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP), and the
Society of State Directors of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
- Providing ongoing follow-up support and technical assistance to NSM
participants to identify and overcome barriers to integrating programs
and policies that help prevent HIV infection, STDs, and unintended and
teen pregnancy.
- Partnering with the Center for Applied Research and Technical
Assistance (CARTA) to conduct an environmental scan of state
programmatic work related to adolescent reproductive/sexual health
disparities.
- Working in collaboration with CARTA, an adolescent health advisory
panel, and AMCHP members to begin planning an adolescent reproductive
health disparities summit. The summit will be held in year 4 of the
cooperative agreement.
- Hosting an Adolescent Reproductive Health Information Series. AMCHP will showcase promising and evidence-based practices in adolescent
health and highlight national initiatives and resources, among other
topics, through a series of conference calls on adolescent reproductive
health.
- Increasing Maternal and Child Health professionals’ awareness/access to information,
materials and issues related to adolescent HIV, STD and unintended teen
pregnancy prevention.
