AMCHP is a national organization representing state public health leaders and academic, advocacy, and family health professionals that works to improve the health and well-being of women, children, youth (including those with special health care needs), and families.

AMCHP's Program in Action

AMCHP is funded to provide Capacity-Building Assistance for Preventing HIV Infections: State and Local Health Agencies.

  • Working with the National Stakeholders Collaborative (NSC) to plan and conduct a National Stakeholders Meeting (NSM) Reconvene to strengthen collaboration between state health and state education agencies to support and improve prevention of HIV, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and unintended and teen pregnancy for youth. The NSC is comprised of the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD), the National Coalition of STD Directors (NCSD), the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP), and the Society of State Directors of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.

  • Providing ongoing follow-up support and technical assistance to NSM participants to identify and overcome barriers to integrating programs and policies that help prevent HIV infection, STDs, and unintended and teen pregnancy.

  • Partnering with the Center for Applied Research and Technical Assistance (CARTA) to conduct an environmental scan of state programmatic work related to adolescent reproductive/sexual health disparities.

  • Working in collaboration with CARTA, an adolescent health advisory panel, and AMCHP members to begin planning an adolescent reproductive health disparities summit. The summit will be held in year 4 of the cooperative agreement.

  • Hosting an Adolescent Reproductive Health Information Series. AMCHP will showcase promising and evidence-based practices in adolescent health and highlight national initiatives and resources, among other topics, through a series of conference calls on adolescent reproductive health.

  • Increasing Maternal and Child Health professionals’ awareness/access to information, materials and issues related to adolescent HIV, STD and unintended teen pregnancy prevention.
