2005 annual meeting: Energy, Space, Time

Houston, Texas, March 16-20, 2005

ASEH's 2005 conference was hosted by the University of Houston in the energy capital of the world, at the historic Warwick Hotel. Located in the city's Museum District, the Warwick Hotel overlooks Hermann Park, the Houston Zoo, and Rice University. A new light rail line connects the hotel to downtown Houston.

The theme of the conference reflects the importance of the energy industry in Houston: Energy, Space, Time.

  • Oil Industry Landscape and Ship Channel

Speakers

Wilma Subra, a chemist and environmental advocate who investigated the Love Canal case in New York, will serve as the Houston conference banquet speaker on Saturday evening, March 19. Subra received a MacArthur Fellowship in 1999 and is president of the Subra Company, Inc. – a firm based in Louisiana. She has assisted more than 500 community groups in the United States and abroad analyzing data and identifying sources of pollutants.

A plenary session on energy is scheduled for March 17, and will include Judith Kimerling from Queens College, David Nye from Syddansk Universistet, Joseph Pratt from the University of Houston, and Heather Turcotte from U.C. Santa Cruz. Another session involving former directors of the National Park Service is also planned.
