Playoff Field Down to Four

Tuesday January 13, 2009
Four preseason games, 17 weeks of regular-season contests, and two rounds of playoff action find us with the Super Bowl XLIII playoff field narrowed to just the following four teams.

Familiar Foes Alive in AFC
The Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers have seen a lot of each other this season. Because they are both in the AFC North, they faced off twice in 2008 with the Steelers narrowly winning both contests. Since both teams won again over the weekend in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs, it looks like they'll face off for a critical third time with a trip to Super Bowl XLIII on the line. NFC's Most Unlikely Advance
If you have no rooting interest in the rest of the remaining playoff field, how can the Arizona Cardinals not be your sentimental favorite? I mean, c'mon. This is a team that has made just five playoff appearances since Harry Truman was in the White House, and has never played in an NFC championship game. Despite having just two years as a starting quarterback under his belt at the collegiate level, Bradford has developed into one of the top prospects in the nation at quarterback and figures to be an early selection in the 2009 NFL Draft. That is, if he comes out! Read more...

Forecast for Sunday

Saturday January 10, 2009
I'm splitting my picks again on Sunday with one home team and one visitor coming out on top. Check out which one's which!

Giants Begin Title Defense Against Familiar Foe
The late-season hot streak of the Philadelphia Eagles has sparked recent comparisons to last year's New York Giants, who coincidentally they face in Sunday's NFC divisional playoff game. The Giants, of course, rode their wave of prosperity to a Super Bowl XLII championship, and the Eagles hope to have similar success this year. But getting by the defending champs isn't going to be easy, especially on the their home field. Read more...

Chargers to Test Steelers Offensive Line Although they both entered the playoffs as division winners, the Pittsburgh Steelers and San Diego Chargers took very different paths to this year's postseason. The Steelers cruised to a 12-4 record to win the AFC North while San Diego scrambled to finish 8-8 after a disappointing 4-8 start. Despite the records, however, the Chargers are probably playing the better football at this point. But can they continue their hot streak on the road at Pittsburgh this week? Read more...
