About.com Guide to Architecture since 1999

Jackie Craven became fascinated by architecture when she bought her first Victorian house. Five houses and 25 years later, she continues to write about home design, historic preservation, and contemporary trends.

Experience:

A skilled journalist and researcher, Jackie holds a Doctor of Arts degree in writing. She wrote the monthly "Fix" column for House and Garden magazine, published many features in the Providence (RI) Journal and other newspapers, and worked as an architecture coach for Realtor Magazine. Since becoming the Architecture Guide for About.com in 1999, Jackie has published two books, The Healthy Home and The Stress-Free Home (Rockport Publishers). She also established a rental business dedicated to 19th century homes and won two Heritage Preservation Awards for restoration projects in her city. Jackie is now trying to unravel the complexities of community planning and code enforcement by serving on her local historic commission.

From Jackie Craven:

A building is so much more than wood, nails, bricks, and mortar. Join me as we explore the ideas and aspirations that shape the ways we build. And be sure to stop by our discussion forum to ask questions and share ideas!
