Following the success of the 2003 Western Hemisphere Migratory Species Conference, the country representatives and stakeholder participants committed to continue the momentum of the effort, and as a result, an Interim Steering Committee (ISC) was formed.

Since then, the ISC has worked to draft a terms of reference for WHMSI, outlining the initiative’s vision, mission and objectives, as well as a proposed structure. The Committee has also been active in the preparation of descriptive materials such as fact sheets and a power point presentation that are used to better explain WHMSI. And ISC members have continued to communicate with countries in their subregions and other interested stakeholders about progress made moving WHMSI forward, encouraging wide participation in its implementation across the hemisphere.
