Bright Futures Case Studies for Primary Care Clinicians Are Available

A new series of manuals, Bright Futures Case Studies for Primary Care Clinicians, translates clinical guidelines into useful training modules for health care providers.

The three new Bright Futures volumes are A Guide to the Case Teaching Method; and Growth in Children and Adolescents, Child Development and Behavior and Adolescent Health.

Bright Futures is a series of materials that providers serving children and adolescents can use to establish partnerships with their patients’ families, schools and communities and organize activities that promote health. Other Bright Futures materials offer clinicians perspective on how children grow and develop as well as information on nutrition, health supervision and oral health.

Training modules include case narratives, handouts such as growth charts, bibliographies and teaching guides. All materials were developed and rated by faculty and residents in family medicine, pediatrics, nursing, social work and psychology, dentistry, nutrition and other areas of practice. Case studies encourage active discussion to explore the best ways providers can deal with patients and their families, promote patient health and safety, solve problems and diagnose conditions.

The new manuals are supported by HRSA’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau and the Genentech Foundation for Growth and Development and were developed by the Bright Futures Center for Pediatric Education in Growth and Development, Behavior, and Adolescent Health at Children’s Hospital, Boston.
