Marine Recreational Information Program (MRIP)

The Magnuson-Stevens Reauthorization Act of 2006 requires that a program be established to improve the quality and accuracy of information generated by Marine Recreational Fisheries Statistics Survey (MRFSS). The program must be implemented by January 1, 2009. A National Registry Program for Marine Recreational Fishing must also be created.

NMFS has published a final rule to implement the national registry for recreational fishers. More information is available on the MRIP website.

Rules and Notices

NMFS published a final rule to implement a national registry for recreational fisheries. This rule published on December 30, 2008, and is effective January 29, 2009, except for Section 600.1405, which is the requiremen for registration by persons and for-hire vessels, which is effective January 1, 2010.

NMFS published a proposed rule to implement a national registry for recreational fisheries on June 12, 2008, and accepted comments through August 11, 2008.
