Sen. Hutchison: “Pace one of the Finest Generals I Have Known” Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Bid Farewell today at Fort Myer
WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R–TX), the Ranking Member of the Senate Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee, issued the following statement today regarding the retirement of Gen. Peter Pace, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff:
“Today, one of the finest military Generals I have known, General Peter Pace, has concluded his military service to this nation as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He was the first Marine to hold this position and served honorably during a significant time in our nation’s history. His efforts contributed greatly to the transformation of our Armed Forces for the 21st century.”
“Gen. Pace has contributed a lifetime of dedicated service, from modest beginnings to leading Marines in Vietnam and Somalia; he has defended America around the world.
“I send my sincere appreciation to General Pace for his leadership in service to this nation and enjoyed working with him on critical defense issues. I wish him all the best in the future.”
Sen. Hutchison is a member of Senate Leadership as Chairman of the Republican Policy Committee and is also a member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee.
