Habitat: Steeply rolling hills among the range's 18,763 acres are dominated by prairie grasses interspersed with streams, lakes, and stands of Douglas fir and ponderosa pine.

Wildlife: The Bison Range is a symbol of contrition for an earlier time, when the American bison was nearly exterminated. Between 350 and 500 of the shaggy mammals are found here, along with elk, pronghorn antelope, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, black bears, and 200 species of birds.
