Evaporative Emissions
On this page you will find regulations and guidance information for fuel evaporative emissions.
Evaporative emissions, which typically come from fuel that escapes unburned from storage tanks and fuel lines, are comprised of volatile organic compounds. They contributed significantly to the nation’s ground-level ozone problem, causing harm to human health and public welfare. EPA has collaborated with the automotive industry and California Air Resources Board to reduce evaporative emissions and the associated health and environmental risks, resulting in regulations that limit the amount of evaporative emissions that vehicles release while driving, while parked, and during refueling events.
