The total number ofboxes completed through June 2005 is approximately 120,110. The number of boxes completed in the upcoming months is anticipated to be lower than numbers reported in the past. Ths is due to the fact that the majority of the boxes in the OfficeoETrust Records' (OTR) ccallections (in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Lee's Summit, Missouri) have now been completed. The boxes which are now being indexed are those boxes of inactive records that are being collected fiom Bureau of Indian Affairs (BLA)field locations under OTR's BIA backlog project. Movement of Records The BIA and the Officeof the Special Trustee for American Indians (OST) moved approximately 1,870 boxes of inactive records from various field locations to Lenexa for indexing and subsequent storage at the American Indian Records Repository (AJRR). OTR did not move any other boxes from OTR facilities in Albuquerque to Lenexa, Kansas,in June except for the boxes requiring remediarion reponed below. Boxes Requiring Preservation andforRemediation The 283 boxes requiring remediation were sent to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in Lenexa on June 30,2005. Two map boxes were consolidated as one for purposes of shipment which brought the shipment box count for the 283 boxes to 282; the onebox will be separated into two once the shipment anives in Lenexa. Two additionalboxes were identified during final shipments of OTR's collections as requiring remediation. The two boxes were assessed by Carino Conservation in June and sent to NARA. The additional two boxes brought the shipment total to 284 boxes sent to NARA. It is anticipated that NARA will begin remediation in July 2005 and that once the contents have been cleaned, the boxes will be indexed. Site Assessments The three site assessment reports reported as pending in the May report were completed and distributed in June 2005. Reports were sent ro the BIA offices at Southwest Regional Office, Mescalero Agency, and Ute Mountain Ute Agency. Records Training OTR provided records management training for 59 BIA identified records contacts and 72 Ofice of Indian Education identified records contacts. Equipment OTR did not provide any file storage equipment in June. Additional funding was added to the contract and it is anticipated that provision of equipment will resume in July. Records Evaluarions - Accession #MOO-03-8001 The 3 1 boxes continue to remain at OTR pursuant to a litigation hold. Once the boxes are released, OST can carry out its plans to verify whether any potential records in the boxes are also filed at the field office. The boxes are now stored at the 12'S~t reet warehouse. a Litigation Support and Research Requests OTR continued to provide litigation support in research of records for tribal trust litigation cases including the confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs Reservation of Oregon. OTR conrinued to provide significant support and provide access to records to the Office of Historical Trust Accounting and its contractors, the Department of Justice and its contractors, and the OST Office of Trust Reporting and Reconciliation. AIRR staff provided responses to approximately 141 research requests fiom BIA and OST. ADMINISTRATIVE: OTR staff moved to the OST Masrhead Building during the week of :rune 20-24,2005. GENERAL OBSERVATIONS: I declare under penalty of perjury that the foregoing is true and correct to the best of my
