A global review of marine invasive species: where they are, how they are being introduced, and which ones are most harmful.

Jennifer L Molnar, Rebecca L Gamboa, Carmen Revenga, Mark D Spalding. 2008.  Assessing the global threat of invasive species to marine biodiversity.  Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment.  Vol. 6, No. 9, pp. 485-492.

The global database contains information on over 330 marine invasive species, including non-native distributions by marine ecoregion, invasion pathways, and ecological impact and other threat scores.  This is an ongoing project and the database will be updated periodically.

Non-native species occurrences were recorded using Marine Ecoregions of the World (MEOW), a biogeographic classification of the world's coastal ecosystems (Spalding et al. 2007, BioScience).
