Assistant Inspector General for Audit
Joseph Farinella
Joseph Farinella is a career member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service. He has held
various positions worldwide with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID),
the United Nations, and the U.S. General Accounting Office. Farinella joined USAID's
Office of Inspector General in 1989. Currently, he is the Assistant Inspector General
for Audit. Prior to that he served as the Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Audit;
the Regional Inspector General in Pretoria, South Africa; Director of Policy in
Washington D.C.; and Deputy Regional Inspector General for Audit in Nairobi, Kenya.
Prior to joining USAID, Farinella served with the United Nations for eight years in
Naqoura, Lebanon and Nairobi, Kenya. In these positions, he was responsible for directing
audit and investigative operations in the Middle East and Africa. Before the United Nations, Farinella held positions to the level of audit manager in the U.S. General Accounting Office's New York Regional Office, Far East Branch, and Washington, D.C. Headquarters.
Born in New York City, Farinella holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business
Administration from Fordham University and a Master of Business Administration degree from
Fordham University. He is a Certified Government Financial Manager.
