CSREES Announces $4.8 Million Request for Proposals for Risk Management Education Grants

Washington - April 18, 2001 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced today a $4.8 million request for proposals to carry out a risk management education program. The program will focus on comprehensive risk management education for agricultural producers in the United States. The deadline for proposals is June 1, 2001.

Through risk management education, producers will have the opportunity to learn more about crop insurance, agricultural marketing tools, debt reduction, and other risk management techniques that will enable them to make better informed decisions.

All grants will be competitive and awarded based on merit. Proposals are invited from public and private entities including colleges and universities; Federal, State, and local agencies; non-profit and for-profit private organizations; and others.

The Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service and the Risk Management Agency collaborate regularly on risk management education programs. Funding for this program comes from the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation fund, whose manager is the Administrator of USDA's Risk Management Agency.

For more details about the request for proposal, visit the CSREES home page at www.reeusda.gov or see the April 13, 2001 Federal Register.
