eXtension Launches Personal Finance Site to Help Americans Achieve Financial Security

WASHINGTON , Feb. 26, 2007 – In honor of America Saves Week, eXtension, with funding from USDA, launched Financial Security for All, www.extension.org/personal+finance, an online tool to help Americans make sound financial decisions.
eXtension provides Internet visitors with reliable, up-to-date financial security information through online lessons. Visitors can use the site through self-paced learning to find research-based, peer-reviewed answers to a knowledge base of commonly asked questions which will aid in learning more about specialized areas of personal finance.
“We are very pleased to support the great work of eXtension to build knowledge and, in this case, wealth within families throughout our nation and our world,” said Colien Hefferan, administrator of USDA's Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service.
CSREES, which provided funding for eXtension and partners with land-grant university Extension Services, is among more than 10 organizations working together to encourage Americans to build wealth, not debt (see www.americasaves.org).
As with all of eXtension, Financial Security for All has been developed through the collaboration of Extension professionals with expertise in this area. “Quality content developed in a virtual work place by an expert team is the formula for this exemplary, trusted, electronic learning environment. eXtension participants will gain the knowledge, skills, motivation, and confidence to make their own financial decisions,” said Jane Schuchardt, National Program Leader for Family Economics at CSREES.
