RCRP inmates make good employees!
WHY?
The inmates are obligated to participate in all aspects of community programming; they must:
- Remain drug/alcohol free
- Participate in mandatory drug testing
- Work with a case manager and/or a vocational counselor who is
available to assist the inmate and the employer with work related
issues or concerns
- Participate in work readiness classes as offered by the RCRP
- Obtain and retain employment while at the RCRP
Many are eager to reunite with their families and children and prepared to work hard to find and retain jobs with an opportunity for advancement.
There is convincing evidence that employment
is one of the contributing factors to successful reentry.
A Texas study (Eisenberg 1990) showed that an unemployed ex-offender
is three times more likely to return to prison than an employed
ex-offender. A viably employed ex-offender pays taxes, supports
his/her family, pays rent or a mortgage, and is less likely to
engage in criminal behaviors, creating a safer community for everyone.
