Overview of the Administration
We will profile the people that will be leading the Obama Administration and the priority work that will begin after the inauguration in January. The Transition Project is responsible for overseeing the appointments of a new White House staff and members of the Cabinet.
The Cabinet is made up of the Vice President, the White House Chief of Staff, and the Secretaries of each of the 15 executive departments:
- Department of Agriculture
- Department of Commerce
- Department of Defense
- Department of Education
- Department of Energy
- Department of Health and Human Services
- Department of Homeland Security
- Department of Housing and Urban Development
- Department of the Interior
- Department of Justice
- Department of Labor
- Department of State
- Department of Transportation
- Department of the Treasury
- Department of Veterans Affairs
The Cabinet also includes: the Office of Management and Budget, the Environmental Protection Agency, the United States Trade Representative, and the Office of National Drug Control Policy. In addition to selecting new Cabinet members, an entirely new staff will be chosen to lead the offices within the Executive Office of the President. These offices include:
- Council of Economic Advisers
- Council of Environmental Quality
- National Security Council
- Office of Administration
- Office of Management and Budget
- Office of National Drug Control Policy
- Office of Science and Technology Policy
- President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board
- United States Trade Representative
There are also many offices within the White House Office that will be filled with new personnel. These include:
- Domestic Policy Council
- Homeland Security Council
- National Economic Council
- Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives
- Office of the First Lady
- Office of National AIDS Policy
- Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Boards
- USA Freedom Corps
- White House Fellows Office
- White House Military Office
